McIlroy wins in Hong Kong after beating Quirós

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, world number 2, has won the Hong Kong Open, official tournament of the European Tour, thanks to a birdie on the last hole of the course. With a card of 65 strokes (five under par) on the fourth and final day, the Northern Irishman, winner of the U.S. Open, overtook Alvaro Quiros, who was first on Saturday after the third round. McIlroy, 22, made five birdies in his final round to secure victory in a tournament in which he had finished second in 2008 and 2009. Quiros, who dominated the first three rounds, only managed to card a 73 on Sunday that left him in seventh place. Johnson displaces Woods. The American Zach Johnson saved an eagle on the final hole to close last Saturday with a card of 68 strokes the third round of the Challenge golf tournament in California, displacing his compatriot Tiger Woods from the lead of the event. Woods, who has not won a tournament in just over two years, was the invitational host of this event, which distributed a purse of approximately $5 million.
