The Technical Commission of Streets of the City Council of Malaga has decided to name with the name of. “Golfer Miguel Ángel Jiménez“. to the traffic circle located at the entrance of the Malaga Golf Parador, following the request made by the Board of Directors of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation Royal Andalusian Golf Federation made to the consistory last April to give the name of the professional golfer to a Malaga street, a proposal that was later joined by other institutions of the city and the world of golf.
It is worth remembering that Ángel de la Riva -in his first appearance before the media after being re-elected President of the RFGA- announced this request to the City Council of Málaga, declaring that “Miguel Ángel Jiménez is a source of pride for Andalusia and, especially, for Málaga, so we are going to request that a street be given to this great figure of our sport“.
Thus, the city of Malaga will recognize the brilliant professional career and the continuous work that the golfer does for his homeland, about which he has often said: “….The commitment to my land has always been there. I always say that I want to give back to golf everything it has given me, that’s why I try to work for and for golf in Andalusia, my home. “.
This new recognition will join the multiple distinctions that the Malaga native has already received, including Gold Medal of the Province of Malaga in 2014, ‘Malagueño del Siglo XXI’ in 2007, Andalusian Medal for Sporting Merit in 2001, Gold Medal for Merit in Golf from the Royal Spanish Federation in 1999, and Medal for Merit in Golf from the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation in 1993.
Now, his name will be forever linked to Malaga, in the traffic circle at the entrance to the Parador de Golf, a course where Miguel Angel Jimenez holds the record with 63 strokes, which earned him the victory during the PGA Turespaña Masters of Golf in 1999.
Considered one of the most charismatic players on the European Tour – where he has won 21 titles, 14 of them by the age of forty – the Malaga-born player has been a member of the European team four times in the Ryder Cup, contributing to Europe’s victory in 2004 and 2010.
In addition, he served as vice-captain of the European team in 1997 under Severiano Ballesteros at Valderrama; in 2012 alongside José María Olazábal, when Europe staged the historic comeback at Medinah; and in 2014, at Gleneagles.
On February 13, 2013, the golfer saw a dream come true with the inauguration of the “Miguel Ángel Jiménez” Municipal Golf School in La Colina, in Torremolinos (Málaga), with a practice course and nine holes Pitch & Putt.
On June 20 of this year, the Torremolinos City Council paid tribute to the player by naming the street that leads to the Municipal Golf School after the golfer from Malaga.
