Not a single case of doping in golf in 14 years of testing

doping golfIn the 14 years that anti-doping controls have been practiced in Spanish golf there has not been a single case of doping. The Anti-Doping Commission of the Royal Spanish Golf Federation has carried out to date, since its creation in 1998, more than a thousand doping controls, of which 93 were carried out during the past year 2011. Specifically, the tests carried out during the fourteen years of activity of the RFEG’s Anti-Doping Commission are 1,028, of which 772 have taken place during official competitions and 256 out of competition (69 and 24, respectively, during 2011). To carry out this work, the doctors of the RFEG’s Anti-Doping Commission have so far made 106 visits to fields during official competitions, in addition to the 19 out-of-competition visits.

Apart from the mandatory controls determined by the Health and Doping Control and Monitoring Commission of the Superior Sports Council, in and out of competition, the RFEG’s Anti-Doping Commission is in charge, at the federative level, of ordering additional doping controls to be carried out. Likewise, it is responsible for overseeing the development of all doping controls carried out in official competitions at state level -and out-of-competition controls- on athletes licensed to participate in such competitions. With respect to international competitions held in Spanish territory, the RFEG’s Anti-Doping Commission is in charge of overseeing the development of all doping controls carried out during such competitions, always acting by delegation of the international bodies.

The RFEG’s Anti-Doping Commission periodically organizes talks and conferences aimed at managers and players in order to inform, raise awareness and ensure that golf is a clean and healthy sport.
