Phil Mickelson, new Hall of Fame inductee

American Phil Mickelson, winner of 39 tournaments on the North American PGA Tour, was inducted Thursday into the 2012 class of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

“Getting into the Golf Hall of Fame is a stroke of old age,” the 41-year-old humorously declared at a ceremony at the Singapore tournament, which began Thursday.

“To be part of this group, alongside players who have made this sport exceptional, is something really special,” added the left-handed golfer.

Mickelson has won 39 PGA tournaments during a brilliant career in which he managed to triumph at the Augusta Masters in 2004, 2006 and 2010, as well as at the PGA Championships in 2005. He is currently ranked number 11 in the world, after having occupied the second place for a long time. He has also played in eight Ryder Cups.

The Golf Hall of Fame has more than 130 members, among them Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer or the Spanish Severiano Ballesteros.
