Professional scores 55-over-par! in pre-qualifying round for US Open

He did not have a good day, no. American professional golfer Clifton McDonald will never forget the unforgettable round he played during one of the pre-qualifying tournaments from which some places are obtained to play the US Open. McDonald signed a card of 127 strokes, 55 over par, at the Silver Lakes course, in Alabama, Georgia.

The U.S. professional’s nightmare began very early, on the first hole, a par 5 that he sealed with a triple bogey. On the second he needed five strokes for a par 3, and on the following hole he got his best hole score of the day, a bogey, which he also scored on another hole. His worst scores were nine strokes over par on a 550-yard par 5 and a seven-hole bogey on the 430-yard, par 4 18th. He closed the first round with 59 strokes, 23 over par, and the second round with 68, 32 over par.

Poor McDonald, evidently, was very, very far from getting one of the five available places for the next pre-qualifying round of the US Open, whose title will be defended by current world number one Dustin Johnson.
