Real Club Valderrama immortalizes Sergio Garcia on the 18th green

The Real Club Valderrama has fixed forever one of the most emblematic images of its recent history. The best course in continental Europe, host last week of the Spanish Open, gave Sergio Garcia a picture with his image celebrating his victory in the 2011 Andalucia Masters, an emotional gift that was delivered during a dinner held on Saturday at the club after the third day.

Valderrama is grateful for the support of the Spaniard, top 20 in the world, in the organization and promotion of a tournament that has been a complete success. The Real Club Valderrama has returned to the European Tour in style five years later, partly thanks to the collaboration of Sergio Garcia and his Foundation.

Sergio received the painting made by the painter Víctor Jerez, member of The Knowmads Hub. An image that reflects the precise moment in which he holed the last putt on the 18th hole to win the victory after a vibrant duel against Miguel Angel Jimenez.

With this picture painted by Jerez, an artist who specializes in the portrait of prominent people in the world of sport, the champion has been thanked for his courageous defense of the San Roque course. Sergio has often acknowledged that Valderrama is his favorite course in the world. It should be remembered that Valderrama has hosted the Spanish Open for the first time in history, although it has been the setting for prestigious tournaments such as the 1997 Ryder Cup, two editions of the WGC-American Express Championship and sixteen editions of the Volvo Masters.

“I love the painting. I was surprised when Nuno (Pereira Machado, President of Real Club Valderrama) gave it to me and I was thrilled. I have always said that Valderrama is one of my favorite courses and that victory in 2011 was undoubtedly one of the most special moments of my career. To have that moment personalized in this painting is an honor; I am very grateful to the Real Club Valderrama for the gift and to the author, Víctor Jerez, for making something so beautiful,” said Sergio García.

Víctor Jerez, a longshoreman with a passion for painting

The painting that was given to Sergio Garcia has been made by a local artist, Victor Jerez. A longshoreman from the port of Algeciras who a few years ago discovered his passion for art, more specifically for painting, and since then has been perfecting his technique in a self-taught way to become the painter of the athletes.

Jerez has already had the opportunity to paint other very important figures of the international sports world: Rafa Nadal, Manolo Santana or Sebastian Vettel, among others.

His refined technique in live painting has led him to be hired by the Mutua Open Madrid to paint the tennis players who will play against each other at the end of May. The Open will also host an exhibition of paintings by Jerez himself of the winners of the prestigious tournament in recent years.
