Environmental care is intrinsic to the world of golf and there are a vast majority of courses that show a special sensitivity to sustainability and ecology. One of them is the Costa del Sol’s Atalaya Golf & Country Club, located on the border between Estepona and Benahavís, which has received from the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol the first Environmental Quality Seal based on the flora and fauna of the golf courses and its commitment to the environment.
The president of the joint public entity, Manuel Cardeña, was accompanied by the mayor of Estepona, José María García Urbano, the mayor of Manilva, José Manuel Fernández, and the director of Atalaya Golf & Country Club, Andrés Sánchez.
The Mancomunidad groups eleven municipalities in the western area of the Costa del Sol, including the towns with the largest number of golf courses in Spain, such as Marbella, Mijas, Estepona and Benahavís. With more than 70 courses of 27, 18 and 9 holes, the Costa del Sol, also known as the Costa del Golf, is the leading golf tourism destination in Europe.
