Saddier wins the Gecko at San Roque Club and Finca Cortesín

Adrien Saddier has added today a little more luster to the brilliant record of the Gecko Tour. The young French player won the tournament held at The San Roque Club and Finca Cortesín with a total score of 212 strokes. A final card of 73 strokes in San Roque, the course where the third and last day was held in its entirety, was enough to win with two strokes ahead of the German Patrick Kopp and six over the also French Adrien Bernadet and the Swedish Anton Karlsson, who shared the third place.

The appointment in San Roque and Cortesin is one of the most anticipated every season in the Gecko and once again has not disappointed at all. Courses with a level of demand typical of the European Tour. Two courses that are capable of pushing the best players to the limit and that have shown it again this week. Only Saddier and Kopp have managed to finish under par after three days of competition and no one has been able to beat the course all three days. The winner admitted that it has been a tough challenge: “The conditions this week have been very tough, with a lot of wind and demanding courses. It was a good test.

Saddier is another prestigious winner for the Gecko. He is 23 years old and is one of the great promises of the already flourishing French golf. He completed a magnificent career as an amateur golfer, achieving important triumphs, becoming World Number 10 and standing out in a very brilliant generation of French golfers composed by Victor Dubuisson, Alexander Levy, Gary Stal or Romain Wattel, players all of them very settled in the European Tour and with several victories in their palmarés. “All of them are the example that French golfers should follow. They are the references and I think they are helping to make golf more important in France,” said Saddier during the presentation of the trophy.

It should be remembered that Saddier already had in 2014 the European Tour card, obtained in a flash, just a few months after turning professional and through the School. In his first season at the top level he could not keep the card, but he left some signs of what he is capable of, signing for example a 64 on the third day of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters and going out to play the last day in the penultimate match. Saddier himself admits that that season was a great learning experience: “It was all very fast. Going from amateur to pro I had to change a few things in the way I play and it’s not easy to assimilate. Even so, I have the feeling that I played well,” he says.

The French golfer is now trying to return to the European Tour. He has the Challenge card and hopes to return soon with the best. The Gecko is helping him on this path. “It’s a circuit that is great. It’s very good for the players to be able to come here and play in winter where elsewhere it’s impossible,” he finished off.

The tournament also featured the outstanding presence of Englishman Barry Lane, a legend of European golf, now a senior, who missed the cut by one stroke, as well as Roman Sebrle, one of the greatest athletes of all time, Olympic dectahlon champion and current world record holder.

The next date of the Gecko Tour will be at the Miguel Angel Jimenez Academy, in Torremolinos, on the 6th, 7th and 8th. The first day will be Pro-Am and the following two days will be for professionals only.
