The Spanish team, made up of Martín Larrea, Manuel Elvira, Covadonga Sanjuán and Alejandra Pasarín, has won the fifth edition of the Evian Masters Junior Cup, a tournament held at the French course of Evian, which Spain has won for the second time in history after the victory in 2008.
Two other second places – those obtained in 2007 and 2009 – and the fourth place in 2010 make the Spanish team the most outstanding of all those taking part in the Evian Masters Junior Cup.
The bad weather conditions completely conditioned the competition, to the point that it was necessary to suspend the second and final round because several parts of the course were completely flooded with water.
This decision implied that, in order to determine the winner, the results of the first day were taken as a reference, at which time Spain, with 212 strokes, was leading the tournament with one stroke less than the United States and three less than France, the teams that in practice were going to fight for the title in the second and final round, since the rest of the participants were already at a significant distance from each other.
The strength and success of Alejandra Pasarín -the best in the female category with 70 strokes- was joined by the outstanding performance of Manuel Elvira -70 strokes, the second best result in the male category after the American Brad Dalke- and Martín Larrea, 72 strokes, reigning champion of Spain for Children as well as Alejandra Pasarín.
These excellent records made it necessary to discard another equally outstanding result, that of Covadonga Sanjuán, 74 strokes in her case, which placed her in sixth place in the women’s category.
