Suzann Pettersen, one of the best golfers in the world, with an impressive track record that includes, among other successes, two majors and fifteen victories in the American Professional Tour, joins the extraordinary line-up of players who will participate in the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, a tournament of the European Professional Tour that will take place at the RCG Gualdamina between September 21 and 24 with the main sponsorship of Turismo de Andalucía, Turismo Costa del Sol and Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental.
The presence of the Norwegian golfer, born in Oslo on April 7, 1981, augurs a vibrant duel in sight with the Spaniards Azahara Muñoz and Carlota Ciganda, who also opt for the triumph of this spectacular tournament.
Suzann Pettersen, who represented her country at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro – where she finished tenth – has been a regular competitor on the LPGA Tour since 2003, when she gained access to the world’s top women’s tour at the first attempt.
Second in the LPGA Ranking in 2007 and 2013 -also fifth in 2009, 2010 and 2011-, Suzann Pettersen has built an outstanding sporting resume in which stand out her victories in the LPGA Championship 2007 and the Evian Championship 2013, the two women’s Majors that underpin a career seasoned, only in the United States, with fifteen victories and more than a hundred long Top 10 on the LPGA Tour.
Although she has been very little used on the European Women’s Tour – hence the importance of her presence at the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España – Suzann Pettersen has won six tournaments on the Ladies European Tour, including topping its ranking in 2013.
Her perennial presence in the European Solheim Cup team, accumulating eight participations (2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015) in which she has scored 21 points in 37 matches, is part of the successful idiosyncrasy of Suzzan Pettersen, a reference player who will measure her forces with the best golfers of the European continent, among them Azahara Muñoz and Carlota Ciganda, the great icons of Spanish golf.
Vice-captain of the European team at the 2017 Solheim Cup.
Tremendously loved and admired by her own playing partners, Suzann Pettersen was unable to play in the last edition of the Solheim Cup – in what would have been her ninth consecutive participation – due to a last-minute back injury. This circumstance did not prevent the Norwegian from being present in Des Moines since, in response to a common request, captain Annika Sorenstam appointed her as vice-captain so that she could contribute her enormous experience to the European team, who publicly thanked her for her presence.
Free admission
Admission to attend the four days of competition -from September 21 to 24- of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España Femenino will be free of charge.
Village around the pool
The RCG Gualdamina facilities will host, among other things, a commercial village around the pool, where various institutions and companies will present their products to participants and the general public. So far more than fifteen tents are expected to be present.
A complimentary tent of almost 400 square meters
In order to meet the needs of players, companions and people related to the organization of the event, a tent of almost 400 square meters will be installed, an initiative in line with the importance of this Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España.
Essential support for a tournament of great relevance
The support of Turismo de Andalucía, Turismo Costa del Sol and Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Costa del Sol Occidental is part of a sports and tourism promotion effort, aware of the attraction of golf among national and foreign tourists, who find in this sport another incentive when choosing this Spanish region as a destination.
This important competition also has the support of Reale Seguros, Royal Spanish Golf Federation, Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, RCG Guadalmina, Consejo Superior de Deportes and Ladies European Tour. The organization is in charge of the company Deporte & Business.
