Jon Rahm has this week a commitment of undoubted importance in his career, a tournament in which if things go well for him, seven days later he will be eligible for the jackpot of the season: the ten million dollars that will be pocketed by the winner of the FedExCup. The imminent appointment is the third and penultimate stage of the FedExCup Playoffs, the BMW Championship, which will be played at the Conway Farms Colf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, starting on Thursday.
The Basque player is currently fifth in the FedExCup ranking and, if he manages to maintain that position after the tournament, he will have the best chances of winning the grand prize of ten million. This is because, according to the points distribution of the last tournament of the Playoffs, the Tour Championship, if one of the top five wins it, he will also win the FedExCup.
The last event of the Playoffs, which like the three previous ones will distribute 8.7 million dollars in prize money (1.5 for the winner), will only be accessible to the top thirty players in the FedExCup ranking after the BMW Championship, a tournament that will be played by 70 players, among them Rahm, Sergio García and Rafael Cabrera-Bello. The Spaniard is 34th in the FedExCup ranking and the Canary Islander is 60th, so the chances of winning the 10 million are very, very slim in both cases, if not practically impossible.
