The clubhouse of Rio Real Golf & Hotel has hosted today the Official Presentation of the Andalusian Championship of the Andalusian Professional Golf Association (APGA), with the celebration of a press conference with the participation of Miguel Navarro (General Secretary and Manager of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation), Diego Morito (President of the Andalusian Professional Golf Association) and Luis Navarro (Director of Rio Real Golf & Hotel).
The APGA Andalusia Championship will be held on June 24 and 25 at the aforementioned Marbella course. This is the most important event in the APGA’s sporting calendar and is sponsored by the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation -through its Professionals Committee- and with the support of the tournament department of the federative body for the organization of the championship.
The test, which will be played 36 holes Stroke Play without cut, is only male, will be open and it will compete both members of the APGA itself and professional players federated by the RFGA. In addition, five invited amateur players will also participate, among which stands out the name of the player of Club de Golf La Cañada, Mario Galiano, current number 15 in the World Amateur Ranking. Registration for APGA members costs 50 euros, and non-members must pay 85.
At the moment, 70 players are registered for the Championship, among them outstanding players such as Carlos Rodiles and Manolo Quirós or the European Senior Tour player, Juan Quirós. However, it is estimated that the registration will close with the competition of 80 players, of which 30 will compete in the senior tournament. The senior players may choose to participate in the senior competition or in the absolute competition, in no case in both at the same time. There will be two rounds of 18 holes and there will be no cut.
As for the state of the course, the director of Río Real Golf & Hotel, Luis Navarro, explains that there will be no changes for this test, since last June 10 and 11 the Final of the Women’s Circuit of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation was played there, for which the referees did a perfect job of marking and preparing the course. The only nuance requested by the APGA has been that they have asked for fast greens, so these will be at a speed of 11 feet.
Pro-Am Juan Cantos – St. John’s Night
On June 23, the Pro-Am Juan Cantos – Noche de San Juan will be held, a prelude to the APGA Andalusia Championship, in which the most outstanding professional players will participate among those who will play in the following two days of the Championship.
The tournament will be open to amateur players with an active RFEG handicap. Players residing abroad will be able to participate with a current handicap certificate from their home club.
The number of teams will be limited to 22 and the event will be played under modified Scramble modality with two best Stableford balls (the best tee of the 4 players is chosen and from there each player plays his ball, counting the two best stableford results of the team in each hole).
The start will be at 16:30 and after the tournament there will be a barbecue dinner and awards ceremony, enlivened by live music by Duo Arenal.
Registrations can be made until Sunday, June 21 at 12:00 noon, by e-mail to golf@rioreal.com or by phone at 952765733. Registration includes use of buggy and invitation to dinner. The price for amateur players is 105 euros. Non-player companions will have a special price for the dinner of 35 euros.
