The best golf is back at the Men’s and Women’s Andalusia Cups in Guadalmina and Atalaya.

The emblematic courses of Real Club de Golf Guadalmina and Atalaya Golf & Country Club are ready to host the first major event of the amateur competition at national level. The Andalucía Men’s and Women’s Cups bring together from today 160 players, among which are the great promises of the national and international golf scene.

The spectacle is assured in some tests in which the cut handicap stands at 2.6 for girls and +0.2 for boys. Thus, while the South Course of Guadalmina will once again host the men’s event for the seventh consecutive year, the Old Course of Atalaya repeats as the venue for the women’s competition for the fourth time.

A total of 80 participants will take part in each event, although the number of registered players has been much higher -almost 300 players in total- which shows the great attractiveness of the competition.

The list of winners of the tournament is more than brilliant. In the men’s event, Alfonso Castiñeira, Carlos Pigem, Pedro Erice, Manuel Couto, Juan Francisco Sarasti, Víctor Pastor, Jordi Flotats, Adriá Arnaus, Pep Anglés, Iván Cantero and the Swede, federated precisely by the Real Club de Golf Guadalmina, Marcus Svensson, Ángel Hidalgo and the current champion from Madrid, Eugenio López-Chacarra, who is currently pursuing his university career in the United States, have won.

For this new edition, the presence of the local player Alvaro Mueller, who currently occupies the eighth position of the World Amateur Golf Ranking, stands out in a special way. Álvaro comes from signing a spectacular 2019 season, in which he has conquered practically all the major events he has played, increasing his record with the U18 Spanish Championship, Absolute Spanish Championship, U18 Spanish International Stroke Play and Balearic Cup, among other triumphs.

Together with him, the also federated Andalusian Matyas Zapletal, is another of the great favorites according to the handicap order. The Belgians Adrien Dumont and Giovanni Tadiotto, who head the list of participants in the same order, are proof of the excellent international representation of the event.

The tournament is played over 72 holes Stroke Play in four consecutive days, 18 holes each day. The last day will be played only by the 50 best classified and equal in this position. The tournament is valid for the Boy National Ranking and the World Ranking.

As for the girls, the reigning champion, the Valencian Carla Tejedo, will be present in Atalaya to defend her title, also heading the list of participants with the lowest playing handicap. She is followed in this order by Ana Pelaez from Malaga, who won the event in 2014 and will also fight for the title starting on Thursday.

In addition to them, the Catalan Laura Pasalodos conquered the Andalusia Cup in 2018, Ivon Reijers in 2017, María Parra took the win in 2016 and 2015, before making the leap to the professional world, and Nuria Iturrios was the 2015 champion.

The women’s tournament will also be played over 72 holes in Stroke Play in four consecutive days, 18 holes each day. At the end of the third day, a cut will be established for the first 50 and the tied 50. It is also valid for the World Ranking, as well as for the Absolute, Girl and Cadet Women National Rankings.
