The Costa del Sol is going to intensify this year the promotion of golf tourism at a national level in order to gain the loyalty of Spanish golf fans who usually travel to practice their favorite sport. To this end, Turismo Costa del Sol is going to invest 148,000 euros in a series of actions that include two circuits that will tour the country until October and that will be developed together with the publishing group Dirigentes, which, in turn, has the logistical collaboration of the event organizer Gambito Golf.
The first of them, which will be called Costa del Sol Premium 2015, will consist of 22 rounds on the main courses throughout Spain and both the inaugural tournament, which takes place this weekend at Guadalhorce Club de Golf, and the final will be played in the province of Malaga (the latter in October). Any player with a valid license and over 21 years of age may participate in this tournament.
The second circuit, which will be called Costa del Sol Dirigentes Premium 2015, will host five events aimed at senior executives of large companies based in Spain and which have a great prescriptive potential for the destination. This circuit, which will be played in the most exclusive courses in Spain, will conclude in October and the final will be played, together with the first tournament, on the Costa del Sol.
The CEO of Turismo Costa del Sol, Carlos Conde, has stated that the offensive to capture the national golf tourist is carried out precisely in a year in which the economic recovery of the country is already being noticed and in which the courses of the Costa del Golf expect a growth in the number of players and the best forecasts of the last 7 years. “The Costa del Sol is the preferred destination for golfers in major European markets and we have the firm intention that the national tourist also becomes another reference for us, because in Spain there are more than 285,000 federated,” Conde has detailed.
In this sense, Conde has highlighted the seasonal power that has the golf segment for the Costa del Sol and has ventured that the forecast is that the share of domestic tourists who come to play in the province will increase by five points and reach 20% by the end of 2015 (currently, 15% of all golf tourists are Spanish).
With these actions the Costa del Sol destination will be present for eight months throughout the Spanish geography in cities and regions such as Seville, Valencia, Barcelona, Madrid, San Sebastian, Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca, Santander, La Rioja, La Coruña, Huelva and Jerez. The objective, therefore, includes the loyalty of a broad spectrum of public that the Royal Spanish Golf Federation has counted in 285,483 national players (as of January 1, 2015) and with presence in the autonomous communities with more federated: Madrid (84,843), Andalusia (45,083), Catalonia (32,041), the Valencian Community (19,669) or the Basque Country (18,455).
As Miguel Ángel Gómez, general manager of the Dirigentes group, and Jorge Piera, general manager of Gambito Golf, have said, the realization of these two circuits will bring with it different associated communication actions thanks to the repercussion that these companies have in the golf segment. Among them, reports on the circuits will be published in specialized media, communications will be sent via email (newsletter) to more than 10,000 active national players, press releases will be made to report on the preliminary and qualifying rounds, and all actions will have an active presence in social networks (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, blogs, etc.).
In this sense, Miguel Angel Gómez, who assured that the golf segment has many similarities with the day to day business world, showed his great satisfaction to participate in this future project that “will position the destination as a reference at national and international level”. For his part, Jorge Piera expressed himself along the same lines, assuring that this project will serve “to consolidate the Costa del Sol in a segment in which it is already positioned”.
