The Diputación receives the Plaque of Merit in Golf for its work to make the Costa del Sol a world class destination

The Diputación de Málaga has received the Plaque of Merit in Golf for its “tireless commitment” to turn the Costa del Sol into a world-class golf tourist destination. The president, Francisco Salado, has collected in Madrid, at the headquarters of the Spanish Olympic Committee, the award given by the Royal Spanish Golf Federation.

This recognition comes at the end of a year that has been marked in the province of Malaga by the celebration of prestigious professional competitions, such as the Solheim Cup, the PING Junior Solheim Cup or the Race to Costa del Sol.
Salado has stressed the importance of the golf segment in the province, with more than 70 courses spread along what is known as the ‘Costa del Golf’, and explained that this segment helps to manage seasonality and has an important weight in the economy, since its economic impact amounts to 1,410 million euros and generates about 17,700 jobs, either direct or indirect. “Golf is fundamental for the sustainability, profitability and the fight against seasonality of our destination,” he said.

On the other hand, the Royal Spanish Golf Federation, at the request of the Honors Committee and after approval of the Board of Directors, has awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in Golf to Elías Bendodo, member of the Congress of Deputies, for his strong support to this sport during his time as president of the Diputación de Málaga, a period in which numerous initiatives aimed at the sport, tourism and social projection of this sport were developed.
