Good news for the golf sector in Europe’s leading golf tourism destination is the appointment of Manuel Muñoz as the new Secretary General of Tourism of the Andalusian Government.
The Cadiz-born and until now manager of Andalusian Tourism has been chosen for the position by the Vice President of the Board and Minister of Tourism, Regeneration, Justice and Local Government, Juan Marin. The leader of Ciudadanos has justified his choice in that all sectors of tourism with which he has met have agreed that Muñoz “is a person who can and has been playing a very positive work, and there are the results”.
Muñoz (Arcos de la Frontera, 1966) holds a degree in Geography and has extensive professional experience in tourism, having held various positions of responsibility, including general director of the Provincial Tourism Board of Granada and managing director of the Granada Convention Bureau. He also held management positions in the province of Cadiz related to tourism. In the regional administration, he has had different responsibilities in Turismo Andaluz such as director of National Promotion, director of Marketing and director of Tourism. He was appointed in July 2015 managing director of the public company for the Management of Tourism in Andalusia, a position he has held until his appointment as general secretary of Tourism of the Andalusian Government.
In his professional career in Turismo Andaluz, Muñoz has always shown his support for the world of golf, aware of the importance of this sector in the economy of the autonomous community, especially as a factor of deseasonalization of the tourist flow, as the high golf season in Andalusia coincides with the low season of sun and beach tourism, without forgetting that the level of spending at the destination is much higher in the case of golf tourists.
That is why the golf sector has welcomed the appointment of Muñoz, who is expected to follow the same line of promoting Andalusian golf as a major tourist attraction.
