Surrounded by a good handful of friends, famous golfers and famous golfers, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, together with the Mayor of Torremolinos, Pedro Fernández Montes, have inaugurated in this town of Malaga the Municipal Golf School named after the player from Malaga. The professionals Manuel Piñero, Jose María Cañizares and Juan Quirós and the bullfighters Enrique Ponce and Pepín Liria and the soccer player Manolo Sarabia have accompanied Jiménez in this inaugural act, which was also attended by numerous directors and presidents of golf courses of the Costa del Sol.
Located in the urbanization La Colina, the Municipal School of Golf “Miguel Angel Jimenez” consists of a practice course and a nine-hole Pitch & Putt course; a project that meets the most demanding requirements for the practice of this sport, consubstantial, for many decades, to the Costa del Sol.
The facility is located in an area of seven hectares with slight undulations of the terrain, parallel to the railway line that connects Malaga with Fuengirola. The Pitch & Putt occupies more than 30,000 square meters, and the driving range 16,000 square meters; the rest is completed by an extensive wooded area, the part reserved for the future Club House, parking and recreational areas.
The nine holes, par 3, are of distances between 54 and 128 meters. The entire surface of the course and the tees are of natural grass of the Bermuda Tifway 419 variety, the greens being of Agrostis 007. Two artificial lakes -communicated by an estuary that comes into play on several holes- and nine bunkers flank the course, which is very entertaining, although it requires a great deal of precision.
The 250-meter-long driving range has a capacity for 40 players who can train on natural or artificial turf; 15 turrets illuminate it so that it can be used all year round at night, and it is also equipped with a swing monitoring room. The clubhouse, parking and recreational areas will be built in a second phase of the project.
