Azahara Muñoz begins the U.S. Women’s Tour (LPGA) season today with the challenge of surpassing the great achievements she treasured last year, when she won more than one million euros in prize money, scored her first win on that Tour (the Sybase), and climbed to eighth place on the LPGA and seventeenth in the world ranking. The young golfer from Marbella, who is 25 years old and has taken up residence in Florida, starts her sporting calendar at the ISP played in Canberra, Australia.
“Whenever a season starts, it’s important to set some goals. Traditionally I have had a hard time starting the years, so this time I want to set goals. In the short term, I want to start strong from the beginning,” said the player in her blog, in a clear allusion to the fact that in previous years she went from less to more in the tournaments. Another of her challenges, more long term, is to place herself among the top ten on the circuit and win more tournaments. The player from Malaga will be accompanied on the LPGA by Carlota Ziganda from Navarre, another of the great stars of international women’s golf, as she proved when she finished her first season on the European Women’s Tour (LET) in the number one position and was elected Rookie of the Year.
Azahara Muñoz took her first steps in the world of golf at Real Club de Golf Guadalmina and San Pedro Golf Club. After an amateur stage in which she dazzled with her triumphs both in Europe and in the United States, where she studied at Arizona State University, she turned professional, where she showed her great class from her first performances.
