They say that in the art world everything is possible. And what would happen… IF VELÁZQUEZ WERE HANDICAP 18Well, Philip IV would probably be practicing his swing, Mariana of Austria would be trying to hit the green and the Meninas would be students at the Golf School of La Cañada Golf Club. Don’t you believe it?
Well, they should, because that is the wonderful vision and the ironic touch that Juan Carlos Cordero has given to his pictorial exhibition that will be on display at La Cañada Golf Club from February 27th.
This artist can be defined as a vocational, multifaceted and eclectic creator. His father was a professor of Fine Arts and he himself has continued with his artistic gift by working as an architect since 1988. One only has to take a look at his works to understand that he has been able to take his passion for painting and his love of golf to unsurpassed levels.
Perhaps the work of Juan Carlos Cordero has more in common with Diego Velázquez than one might at first imagine. Both painters are from Seville, capital of Andalusia and cradle of artists. Both stand out for the innovative vision of their portraits and undoubtedly convince for their pictorial quality based on an aesthetic full of harmony and balance, mixing novelty with classical and traditional fundamentals.
The exhibition IF VELÁZQUEZ WERE HANDICAP 18 will be open to the public until the beginning of March at the La Cañada Golf Club facilities. An exhibition that will combine two visions of the world of golf, on the one hand paintings full of color with a touch of humor based on the characters of Spanish history portrayed by Velázquez. And on the other hand a series of black and white drawings that present in a minimalist way and in clear lines that golf is synonymous with class and style.
After seeing this exhibition by Juan Carlos Cordero, we guarantee that you will never look at golf with the same eyes again. And surely on your next visit to the Prado Museum you will miss Carlos IV with his bag of clubs trying to lower your handicap.
