The Olazabal-Nadal match ends in a draw due to the rain

The heavy rain has forced to suspend the last day of the charity golf tournament Olazábal&Nadal Invitational by Pula Golf Mallorca, which has ended in a draw between the teams led by golfer José María Olazábal and tennis player Rafael Nadal, as it happened in 2013.

The weather conditions have been protagonists because they have reduced the second and last day, which has begun to be disputed at 8.30 and has had to end at 10.37, reported the organization in a statement.

The team of the winner of two Augusta Masters and the 2012 Ryder Cup had a big advantage, but the interruption after two hours of play due to rain did not allow to determine a winner.

The tournament has nevertheless achieved its goal of joining forces against social exclusion. Both athletes agreed on the clear winners of the competition: adults, young people and children who, thanks to the projects against social exclusion that will be implemented with the funds raised, will have more opportunities.

In this solidarity confrontation, 15 professionals competed alongside the amateurs: José María Olazábal, Carlota Ciganda, Jesús Legarrea, Jorge Campillo, Ricardo Santos, Santi Luna, Eduardo de la Riva, José Manuel Lara, Álvaro Quirós, Alejandro Cañizares, Nacho Elvira, Lorenzo Gagli, Carlos del Moral, Benoit Teillería, and Pepo Canónica.

The tournament has also had the support from the kitchen of the 7 Michelin star chef Martín Berasategui, the Euskadi Gastronomy Award 2013, known as “Robin Food” David de Jorge, the Mallorcan chef Macarena de Castro (one Michelin star) and the Mallorcan chef Santi Taura.

After the tournament, the Basque golfer’s foundations, Sport Mundi and the Rafa Nadal Foundation, will take the baton to carry out the two initiatives for which the competition has been organized: the dining room scholarships for all of Spain through the EDUCO project (Sport Mundi) and the Social Development Center of Mallorca (Rafa Nadal Foundation).

Last year’s edition allowed José María Olazábal’s foundation to finance a study of health protocols to be implemented for rare diseases, build houses in villages in India and implement programs with the Vicente Ferrer Foundation, and the tennis player’s foundation to continue developing the More than Tennis project for children with disabilities.
