The Oliva Nova Tournament will decide the winner of the 2019 Seve Ballesteros Circuit Order of Merit.

The Oliva Nova Tournament, belonging to the Seve Ballesteros PGA Spain 2019 Circuit, will close the PGA competition of the season and will do so at Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort, a course that Seve Ballesteros inaugurated in 1995, the first nine holes, and in 1997 the second nine.
Since then, this magnificent Valencian course has hosted important professional tournaments and has been key in the history of national golf. Shortly after its opening in January 1999, it was the first course to host the Oki-Telepizza National Tour, where the course record was broken for the first time by Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who shot a score of 63 and ended up winning the tournament in a play-off against Juan Quirós. A record that remains untouchable to this day and that will be a challenge for the 69 professionals who come that week to the Valencian tournament.
A special attraction will be to know who will be the number 1 of the 2019 Order of Merit of the Circuit, which currently leads the Asturian Alfredo García Heredia, who could revalidate his title. He is closely followed by Jacobo Pastor from Madrid.
Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort is a very technical and strategic course, which according to Rafa Velasco, Sports Director of Oliva Nova Golf Club, has overcome one of the biggest challenges since it opened its doors 25 years ago: overcoming the effects of a ‘cold drop’ DANA, which devastated the east of the peninsula in early December.
“The total amount of water accumulated in three days was 190 l/m2, although we have endured other days with higher amounts of rain, it is true that this time it fell in a particularly torrential manner, quickly exceeding the capacity of the course and generating a generalized water damming that due to the high water table that our golf course has because it is close to the sea and the high tide that occurred during the days after the DANA, we had to endure the flooding of the course for approximately 10 days”, explains Jaime Guaita Navarro, Head Greenkeeper of Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort. Golf Resort.
“The work plan, on all areas of the course, has been directed at all times to recover as soon as possible the affected playing areas and subsequently go recovering the appropriate mowing heights to present the golf course in the best possible conditions of playability to host the final of the PGA tournament,” he added.
The recovery of the course has been total and will be in perfect condition to host this Grand Final of the Seve Ballesteros PGA Spain Tour 2019.
