The rebellion of the 40-somethings: Kuchar and Westwood impose their law on the grand tours

In these times when 20-year-olds are dominating the top positions of the world ranking and the world’s major professional circuits, it is almost surprising that in the same week two players who are already in their fourth decade of life have won the two most important men’s tours in the world. Matt Kuchar, 40 years old, and Lee Westwood, 45 years old, have once again seen their laurels of triumph flourish, which, in the case of both the American and the Englishman, had not flourished for four years.
Kuchar has achieved his eighth victory on the PGA Tour at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, and Westwood, former world number one, achieved his 24th victory on the European Tour at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. In this event, held at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun Sity, South Africa, Westwood beat Sergio Garcia (he finished second by three strokes) thanks to an extraordinary last round of 64 strokes, 70 for the Spaniard, who had started as leader on the last day.
Meanwhile, Kuchar won in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, by one stroke over Danny Lee, who closed his performance with a round of 65 strokes, 4 strokes less than the champion.
