Tiger to stay on his $20 million mega-yacht during the US Open

Unlike his tournament colleagues, Tiger Woods will not be staying in a hotel this time during the US Open, which takes place next week at Shinnecock Hills, Southampton, in the state of New York. The world golf star has decided that he will be more relaxed aboard his 155-foot mega-yacht valued at $20 million and estimated to cost about $2 million in annual maintenance.

The boat, named Privacy, which requires a crew of nine to operate, is already docked at Gurney’s Montauk Yacht Club in the Hamptons, just a few miles from the scene of the second big one of the season.

Woods had not played the U.S. Open since 2015, when he missed the cut at Chambers Bay. In his previous appearance, at Merion in 2013, the Californian finished 32nd.

This year’s US Open marks the 10th anniversary of Tiger’s last major victory, the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines, where he won by one stroke over compatriot Rocco Mediate.

Although he failed miserably on the greens last week at the Woods Memorial even though he played a fantastic long and medium game, the former number one is confident that he will do well at the U.S. Open.

Tiger will play the first two days with Dustin Johnson and Justin Thomas.

The three Spaniards in the tournament, Jon Rahm, Sergio Garcia and Rafa Cabrera-Bello, will share a match. So far no Spaniard has won this great one. The closest was Miguel Angel Jimenez, second tied with Ernie Els, in the 2000 edition, which was won by Woods with a lead of ten strokes.
