Haste is a bad advisor… sometimes. Miguel Angel Jimenez is not doing badly at all rushing in the Shot Clock Masters, a European Tour tournament where players are penalized if they take even a few seconds to hit their ball. The 54-year-old from Malaga finished second yesterday, one stroke behind Oscar Lengden (-6) and today he leads the competition, which is being played at Diamond CC, near Vienna, Austria, at mid-morning.
No penalties were recorded on the opening day (one stroke per hole if they exceeded the established time), as all players hit their ball on time, that is, in less than 40 seconds from the tee or second shot on par 4 and 5 and in less than 50 for approachs, chips or puts and from the tee on par 3.
The fastest lap yesterday was completed in 3 hours and 53 minutes, which is 55 minutes less than the average time for a three-way match this season.
Jimenez is in a great moment of play, which translated into his recent first victory in a major on the U.S. senior circuit, the Champions Tour, and his good performance last week at the Italian Open, where he closed with a round of 63 strokes.
