Tiger Woods has announced the hiring of a new caddy, Joe LaCava. “He is an exceptional caddy, I met him when I was still an amateur and I am looking forward to working with him,” said the former world number one.
Woods, 35, parted ways in July with New Zealander Steve Williams, who had been his assistant in 13 of his 14 Grand Slam victories. Williams then joined the services of Australian Adam Scott.

LaCava has caddied for 20 years for Fred Couples, who will captain the U.S. team at the Presidents Cup in November in Australia, and most recently has teamed with Dustin Johnson, one of the most promising young players on the North American PGA Tour.
“I am looking forward to working with Tiger,” LaCava said. “I contacted him and Mark (Steinberg, Woods’ agent) because I had the opportunity to be part of something really special. Tiger and I have been friends for a long time and I know what we can achieve together,” he added.
The two Americans will play their first tournament together in two weeks in San Martin (California). Woods has not won a championship in almost two years and the scandal that arose from his infidelity led to his divorce in August 2010. In two years, he dropped in the world ranking below the top 49.
