For two years now, Tiger Woods has not finished a tournament in the top ten, and the former leader of the world ranking for hundreds of weeks now wanders aimlessly in 266th place in that ranking.
The man who once dominated the majors and who, with four more victories, looked as if he would quickly reach Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors, is now unable to make the cut in the Grand Slam tournaments, as has happened in the last two events: the British Open and the U.S. Open.
“It’s frustrating not being able to win tournaments,” said the former world No. 1. “I’m not really in contention to win often, so that part is frustrating. But I know I just need a couple of shots here and there to turn the tide, although every time I’ve had those opportunities, I haven’t taken them.”
The Californian golfer admits he took a break after the two tough days at St. Andrews. He believes there are only minor errors in his game that need to be corrected.
“I didn’t touch a club for a week,” Woods said. “When I came back, I started testing and found a couple of little things, but it was nothing major, which I was pleased with. Something about my swing wasn’t quite right, I worked on some things and now I feel great.”
“The good thing is that I’ve done it before,” Woods explained. “I’ve been through this and, unfortunately, sometimes I have to be a little worse before I can take a giant step to get a breakthrough.”
