Donald crowns the PGA Tour as number 1 in earnings

British world number one Luke Donald won the U.S. Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic and took the Arnold Palmer Trophy and the PGA Tour winnings with him by completing a 64-stroke card (-8) on the final day for a total of 271 strokes, giving him his second title of the season.

The British completed a great performance in the last holes and signed six birdies to win the tournament. Englishman Justin Leonard, who was the only one capable of standing up to him, finished two strokes behind the winner.

Tied for third place were Korea’s Sunghoon Kang and Americans Tom Pernice and Kevin Chappell with a card of 274 strokes.

“It’s been an incredible day and a wonderful feeling to play so well under pressure,” said Donald. “I came here with the opportunity to make history and I’m very happy to achieve that. “With this victory, Donald ends a wonderful year in the United States, where he has won twice: his other victory came at the Accenture Match Play Championship in February. And he also boasts some extraordinary results, with 14 top ten finishes in 19 tournaments.Donald is now focused on becoming the first golfer to win the money list on both sides of the Atlantic in the same season. With six events remaining on the 2011 European Tour and a lead of 1,500,000 euros over the second-place finisher, Donald seems unstoppable on his way to that goal.
