Finca Cortesín, luxury setting for the Andalucía Golf Challenge

Finca Cortesín hosted a new edition of the Andalucía Golf Challenge in which the participants were able to emulate -saving the insurmountable sporting distances- the great international players who, in one of the three editions of the World Match-Play Championship held here, faced the challenge of this splendid course in Costa del Sol. Obviously they were not at the level of Rory McIlroy, Sergio Garcia, Martin Kaymer or Ian Poulter, to mention some of the stars who competed then in the renowned resort located in the municipality of Casares, but the truth is that the players of the Andalucia Golf Challenge felt the thrill of a great sporting event.

This event of the Andalucía Golf Challenge, a series of open tournaments that celebrates its fifth edition this summer, brought together nearly a hundred players, among which numerous nationalities were represented.

The amateurs who attended the tournament, promoted by this publication, generally played at a good level and enjoyed both the course, which presented magnificent conditions, and the good weather, with a breeze that appeased the strong prevailing sun.

The awards ceremony, in the elegant Finca Cortesín clubhouse, where a splendid cocktail was served, was presided over by the editors of Andalucía Golf, Antonio Sánchez and Stefan Tjellander, the latter in turn the general manager of Holiday Golf, the director of the host club, Francisco de Lancastre, and the executive of Fairway + Blue, Gabriela Johne.

As far as the sporting results are concerned, in the first category the victory went to Peter From, with 36 points. Second place, with one point less, went to Jose María Gil Osorio, and third place, also with 35 points, went to Jorge Hayes.

In the second category, Lise Buer won with 36 points. Second place went to Giraudet Franchino with the same score, while third place went to Ian Collins, who scored 34 points.

Gabriela Johne won the women’s classification. The special prize for closest ball to flag went to Atle Pedersen, while the longest drives, female and male, went to Anna Ulfsdotte and Marcus Dons.

The tournament stood out, apart from the setting of the competition, for the quality of the prizes, which included, among other things, golf equipment and clothing from prestigious brands, TomTom GPS watches and Somontano D.O. wines.

The next dates of the Andalucía Golf Challenge are August 7th at San Roque Old Course and August 22nd at La Reserva de Sotogrande. Registrations to participate must be made at each golf course where the tournament will take place.
