Four arrested for killing chickens with golf club

Authorities in Fresno County, U.S., have arrested an 18-year-old man and three juveniles in connection with the massacre of more than 900 chickens with a golf club at a Foster Farms plant last month.

According to a release from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Gabriel Quintero of Riverdale, 18, and two teens, ages 17 and 15, have been arrested on suspicion of the crime.

The intruders broke into the Foster Farms facility in Caruthers, near Fresno on the morning of September 20. The group killed the chickens with a golf club and other similar type of instrument.

Foster Farms said 920 birds died, with an estimated value of about $5,000. The incident prompted Foster Farms and animal rights groups to offer rewards in the case.

Detectives said the arrests were made thanks to information that spread through social networks about the possible suspects.

All four suspects have been charged with felony theft and felony cruelty to animals. Quintero was booked into the Fresno County Jail, while the three juveniles were booked into the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center.
