Jordi García del Moral has won the fifth round of the Gecko Pro Tour held at the Santa Clara Golf Marbella and Marbella Golf Country Club courses. The golfer from Castellón has signed an excellent card of 66 strokes in the last round, for a spectacular accumulated twelve under par in the last 36 holes.
García del Moral has sealed the victory with a total of 207 strokes, two less than the French Mathieu Decottignies and four less than the Norwegian Eirik Tage Johansen. Carlos Balmaseda finished fourth, closing the poker of players who have managed to play under par after three days, a good demonstration of the difficult conditions that have been experienced on the Costa del Sol.
The Gecko Pro Tour scores another high-flying winner this season. Jordi García del Moral is a regular on the European Tour and the Challenge Tour. In 2014, without going any further, he played practically the entire season on the Challenge, although the results have not been with him. “I knew I had worked well and all I needed was for things to work out for me. After the serious back injury that almost forced me to quit, I was feeling very well and this victory is the proof. I am very happy and grateful to the Gecko”, explains the Spanish golfer.
García del Moral, a close friend and regular training partner of Sergio García, has moved to live on the Costa del Sol. Specifically, he has rented the house to fellow PGA Tour golfer Gonzalo Fernández Castaño. “I have come to live here for the next eight months to complete a course in course management. In the meantime, I’m going to alternate with golf, playing of course all the Gecko tournaments and also those that my Challenge card allows me, which will be about ten. The goal is to do well in those tournaments and return to the European Tour,” he explains.
Jordi is a great example of the twists and turns that golf can take, and not only in terms of his career, but also this week in the tournament. He started the first day at Marbella Golf Country Club with a cumulative six over par through nine holes and has ended up winning the tournament. “To tell the truth, after the first nine holes I was about to take the bag and go home. Luckily I didn’t, I kept playing and look, I ended up winning. I am very happy. Last week I already played very well, but not knowing the courses is a handicap that cost me dearly.”
The next round of The Gecko Pro Tour, which will close the first part of the circuit, will take place next week, on December 18 and 19, at Alcaidesa Golf Club.
