Jiménez is one stroke away from winning his second major senior title

Just barely. One hit is all that was missing from Miguel Angel Jimenez to have fought in playoff for the victory in the US Senior Open, which was finally won by the American David Toms. The player from Malaga, who recently became the only Spaniard to win a major on the U.S. Senior Tour, the Traditions, closed his performance at The Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs with 69 strokes for a total of 278 strokes.

Along with Jiménez, Americans Tim Petrovic and Jerry Kelly shared second place in the tournament, the third major of the season, while Englishman Paul Broadhurst, winner of the second major, the Senior PGA Championship, was next, two strokes behind the winner.

The other two remaining majors, the Senior Players Championship and the Senior British Open, will also be held this July, the first between the 12th and 15th, and the second between the 26th and 29th.

Miguel Ángel Jiménez won his first major on the Champions Tour in May when he was proclaimed champion of the Regions Tradition, held at Greystone Golf & Country Club in Birmingham, Alabama. The player from Malaga, leader from start to finish, signed a final round of 70 strokes to win with 19 under par and 3 ahead of the runners-up: Joe Durant, Gene Sauers and Steve Stricker.

Pisha” (Churriana, Malaga, 5/1/1964) has five Champions Tour titles to his name, one per season: in 2014 he won the Greater Gwinnett Championship, in 2015 he won the Mitsubishi Electric Championship, in 2016 he won the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic and retained the title last year. Of the twelve tournaments he has played this season, in seven of them he has finished in the top ten and is third in the order of merit, with earnings of 1.1 million dollars.
