National Teams player Jon Rahm has won the second Spanish victory of the year in the U.S. Collegiate League by beating teammate Max Rottluff in a tight final at The Duck Invitational.
The former Blume National School player shot rounds of 71, 71 and 70 for a total of 212 (-4), just one less than his teammate at Arizona State University. Both players led their team to victory in the group competition at the Eugene Country Club (Oregon) course.
It should be remembered that Jon Rahm is one of the pillars of Spanish amateur golf and one of the great European promises. His recent performance in the Waste Management Phoenix Open, belonging to the PGA professional, corroborated that the Bilbao native is one of the greatest talents to come out of the Blume National School.
At the beginning of March the first Spanish victory of the year in the U.S. Collegiate League took place in the United States. It was achieved by Scott W. Fernandez, Iowa State player, at the National Invitational Tucson in Arizona, where he showed an overwhelming superiority. This success also made him the golfer with the most victories in the history of his team.
The Andalusian won with a lead of seven strokes. His rounds of 70, 66 and 69 strokes for a total of 205 allowed him to clearly beat George Cunningham (Arizona) and Xander Schauffele (San Diego State).
With this result, Scott W. Fernandez became a historic athlete at Iowa State; never before had a ‘Cyclone men’ – as players from this university are called – won four titles.
At the end of the final day, the Spaniard noted that he kept “calm all day to be able to go at my pace and my game. The coach came with me, but I didn’t want to ask him about the results of the others. But he has helped me a lot the last three days,” he said.
Scott W. Fernandez is a member of the National Teams and one of the most brilliant Spanish players in the United States.
