Jon Rahm wins the Genesis Invitational and regains the world’s number one ranking

Jon Rahm took back the throne of the PGA Tour on Sunday with a thrilling victory in the tournament hosted by Tiger Woods in Los Angeles (California), where the Californian made his comeback after seven months of inactivity.

The player from Biscay, who had already been the world ranking leader between July 2021 and March 2022, snatched this distinction from the American Scottie Scheffler and lifted the tenth title of his career, three of them in this brilliant start of the season.
“To reach this double-digit win mark is incredible. And to do it on a course with this legacy, this history and hosted by Tiger Woods is a true honor. I really can’t explain it,” said a beaming Rahm as he walked off the Riviera Country Club course.
With this triumph, the Spaniard joins Woods himself and Justin Thomas as the only players in the last 40 years to win at least three of the first six tournaments in which they participate in a season.
Rahm, 28, achieved this feat after coming out on top in a thrilling head-to-head battle with American Max Homa in the final round.
Halfway through the round, the player from Barrika had lost the three-stroke lead with which he started the day and was even behind Homa, but regained the lead with two providential birdies in the last five holes.
Rahm, who has one Grand Slam title to his name (the 2021 U.S. Open), shot a final round of 69, two under par, for a cumulative score of 267 (-17), two ahead of Homa and three ahead of fellow American Patrick Cantlay.
Scheffler finished in twelfth place (-8) and Tiger Woods, who has never won on this course, in 45th (-1).
