Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa, world number one in golf between 2007 and 2010, will play in the Rhode Island charity tournament, her first since her retirement two years ago. Ochoa will play in the Caremark Charity Classic with Sweden’s Anika Sorenstam, also retired from top competition and whom the Mexican displaced in 2007 from the top of the world ranking, and Taiwan’s Yani Tseng, current leader of the ranking. The two-round Caremarc Charity Classic tournament will be played this week.
Several of the stars of the American men’s and women’s circuits, the LPGA and the PGA Tour, will participate in the competition. From the former, apart from Lorena and Annika, there will be current stars such as the Norwegian Suzann Pettersen, the Americans Morgan Pressel and Cristie Kerr, and the current number one golfer Yani Tseng. From the PGA Tour, Billy Andrade, Mark Calcavecchia, John Cook, among other golfers, will be playing at the Rhode Island Country Club located in Providence.
The best Mexican golfer in history retired on May 2, 2010 after playing the Tres Marias Championship in Morelia (Mexico). Lorena left the sport to devote herself to her family and to be a mother. After giving birth, Ochoa has participated in several clinics, inaugurated tournaments and offered advice to other golfers.
