Of the Montenmedio golf course, located in the vicinity of one of the most beautiful white villages of Andalusia, Vejer de la Fontera, Severiano Ballesteros said that it is one of those courses that no golfer should miss at least once in a lifetime. And no one who has been here can disagree with the great myth. This course is unique and different, in the middle of a spectacular estate where a multitude of animals in semi-freedom accompany the player in his round.
The clubhouse of this course is also unique: built in a neoclassical Andalusian style, despite being decorated with refinement and exquisiteness, it is still warm and cozy, as well as functional.
As far as the course is concerned, sometimes the game takes second place because from most of the holes the views of the town of Vejer, in the background, over a large hill, or of the Atlantic Ocean, never cease to impress and thrill the player who can never get used to something like this.
The director of the course, Miguel López, of course, shares the opinion of the Cantabrian player and is proud of the resort where this course is located.
“Montenmedio,” he says, “is a very different golf course from the usual. I would define it as ‘natural’, of course with no construction around it, quiet and made on the best estate anyone can imagine.”
“It makes a difference over the others,” he continues. “There are very few courses where golf itself is the basis of the resort, the vast majority are made to justify real estate actions, and that doesn’t happen here.”
-Tell me about the farm….
-It is exceptional, there is nothing similar in southern Europe with so much natural space, wild, so to speak. There are a total of 500 hectares nestled between the natural park of La Breña and the marshes of Barbate. Two areas that comply with the concept of natural reserve, we have immense pine forests and forests of acebuche….
Inside the farm there are free-ranging animals…
In semi-freedom. We have mouflon, deer, deer, rabbits, etc. that occupy large fenced areas and can be seen while playing golf, although, of course, are not within the course. What we can find on the fairways of the course is our beloved ibis eremita, one of the most endangered birds in the world that breeds here in Montenmedio.

-Yes, it is an old Andalusian farmhouse with 27 beautiful rooms, all of them decorated in different ways: paintings, furnishings, etc. It is a very unique and attractive accommodation, very much in demand also for events.
-The other characteristic of this place is the equestrian…
-The Circuito Hípico del Sol is organized here, which is one of the most important in the world. Between February and March, more than 1,500 horses of different nationalities come together to compete and to spend a couple of fantastic months. Riders, horse owners and companions form a cosmopolitan and fun group that has a great time.
-Is it possible to go horseback riding on the endless trails of this farm?
-Not on horseback, but by cart or buggy if a client wants us to organize it for him.
