Thanks to his fourth place in the Dell Technologies Championship, Jon Rahm is now the best European in the world ranking. This has occurred not because the Spaniard has advanced positions in the global ranking, where he remains fifth, but because Rory McIlroy missed the cut in the tournament held at the TPC Boston and has dropped two steps in the ranking, to sixth place.
Justin Thomas won the second round of the FedExCup Playoffs series , in which Rahm, 22, could have played an even better role had it not been for a couple of bogeys that spoiled his card in the second round.
His compatriot Rafael Cabrera-Bello had a final day to remember, with the best score of the week, 65, and climbed to eighteenth place, which allowed him to stay alive in this final phase of the FedExCup and compete in the BMW Championship, the next and penultimate of the four tournaments that make up the so-called Playoffs.
The first one, The Northern Trust, was won on August 27th by Dustin Johnson. The last one, at the end of this month, will be The Tour Championship and only the top thirty classified in the FedExCup ranking, which is currently headed by Jordan Spieth, followed by Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama and Jon Rahm.
Each of the four Playoff tournaments has a prize pool of US$8.7 million, of which US$1.5 million goes to the winner.
