Spieth heads into the British Open with a new victory

It is clear -and even more so with Rory McIlroy out due to injury- who has almost all the cards to win the British Open this week. In case anyone hasn’t heard yet: Jordan Spieth. The 21-year-old American, winner of the first two majors of the season, arrives on British soil with another title behind him, having just won the John Deere Classic of the American Tour, his fourth victory of the year, after beating his compatriot Tom Gillis in a playoff.

The playoff, played at the 18th hole of TPC Deere Run in Silvis (Illinois), was resolved by the current No. 1 in the PGA Tour Ranking and No. 2 in the world in the second attempt, in which it was enough for him to reach the four strokes, after both needed those same impacts in the first attempt.

With all this, Gillis, who could have obtained his first victory in a PGA tournament, qualifies for the British Open, since Spieth already had a place.Third place in the John Deere Classic was shared by American Zach Johnson, who carded 65 strokes, and South Korean-born New Zealander Danny Lee, both with a total of 265 strokes, one less than the tournament champion.

Spaniard Gonzalo Fernández-Castaño achieved his personal best card in this edition of the tournament by completing the course in 67 strokes and, with a total of 274 impacts, he finished in 28th place.
