The President of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation (RFGA), Ángel de la Riva, and the Rector of the University of Malaga, José Ángel Narváez, have signed this morning a collaboration agreement for the creation of the first Chair of Golf, a project full of illusion that constitutes a further step in the close relationship that both organizations have maintained for years.
The University of Malaga and the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation have agreed on the need to establish this Chair, which will promote a space for debate, analysis, research and teaching on business opportunities, new challenges and future prospects for golf tourism.
The Chair will have a financial endowment of 6,000 euros from the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation, through its Promotion Committee, for teaching and research activities, and will be directed by the Vice-Dean for Internships and Business Cooperation, Josefa García Mestanza.
In addition, there will be a committee composed of members of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation and the Faculty of Tourism, which will be responsible for coordinating the activities that depend on the chair, including the organization of conferences, congresses and other academic activities; the conduct of studies and research projects; internships for students, or the promotion of training activities at the occupational level, to develop educational innovation techniques related to golf.
In his words, Angel de la Riva wanted to emphasize the important progress made by having the support of the University for the study of all aspects related to the golf industry, as a generator of wealth, employment and welfare.
“We are a privileged golf destination, because of our wonderful climate, our people, the quality of our courses and our tourist offer”, stressed the President of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation. “That is why -he added- we must also be leaders in training and research in our sector, and this Chair that is born today will help us to deepen our studies, take them to teaching and, thus, continue to improve our service to the sport and tourism.”
For his part, the Rector thanked the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation for its confidence, and said that with actions such as those to be carried out through this chair “the Faculty of Tourism of Malaga will become the best in Spain, for its quality and for the unbeatable environment”. He concluded. Along the same lines, Antonio Guevara -Dean of the Faculty of Tourism- highlighted the relevant role of the project to “generate research work and be able to transfer knowledge to society”.
Finally, the director of the chair, Josefa García, has pointed out that with this chair golf tourism is valued as an element to break with seasonal tourism, and thus achieve a social, economic and cultural projection of the Costa del Sol. It should be recalled that the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation and the University of Malaga and bet on training in the golf sector with the creation of a postgraduate specialization in Management and Management of Golf Courses, which has already graduated two promotions with great success.
The ceremony took place at 11:30 a.m. at the Rectorate Building of the University of Malaga and was also attended by Antonio Vergara, Vice President of the Royal Andalusian Golf Federation; Ignacio Iturbe, Provincial Delegate of the RFGA in Malaga and Deputy President; and Miguel Navarro, General Secretary and Manager of the RFGA.
