Tiger, to a young man who stutters: “I know what it feels like to be different”.

Tiger Woods has written to a young fan who is intimidated by his stutter and, to console him, said, “I know what it feels like to be different.”

The 39-year-old former world number one has revealed to the teenager, named Dillon, that he too had a stutter as a child.

Woods said he was “proud” of the boy and urged him to “keep fighting.”

The 14-time winner learned about the child’s condition from Swedish professional golfer Sophie Gustafson, who suffers from a severe stutter.

Gustafson, who mentors the boy, had contacted U.S. golf journalist Ron Sirak for help and passed along e-mails from Dillon’s mother about the situation. Sirak said he was going to contact Woods, who then wrote to Dillon.

“I know what it’s like to be different and that sometimes you don’t fit in,” Woods wrote.

“I also stuttered as a child and I liked to talk to my dog and he would sit and listen to me until he fell asleep.”

Gustafson, through a tweet, thanked the Californian for the gesture: “Thank you so much to Tiger Woods for the letter he sent to my friend Dillon. He was so happy. He’s framing it to put on the wall.”
