14-year-old girl makes history by winning a professional tournament

New Zealand-based South Korean golfer Lydia Ko has become, at the age of 14, the youngest player to win a professional tournament at the New South Wales Open (Australia), thanks to a four-stroke victory. In doing so, Ko snatches this privilege from Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa, who made history at the age of 15 years and eight months, when he won the Japan Open. “It’s something spectacular. I don’t really know what to say. I’m very happy and to be part of history in this way is a miracle. I have struggled a lot to achieve this,” explained the young Asian golfer after her feat. Ko is already number one in the world amateur ranking. With a handicap plus 5.5, she trains 35 hours a week. The rest she spends on her school work and sleeping. The young South Korean player nearly won this same Australian tournament last year when she was only 13.
