For the past two decades, the undisputed world golf star has said a premature farewell to the season by missing the four FedEx Cup playoff tournaments. Tiger Woods had a chance of breaking into the top 125 in the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup rankings (those who play in the playoffs) if he had won last week’s US PGA Championship, but his hopes were dashed when he missed a birdie on the 9th hole of the final round, when he was just two strokes behind the leader. Then came the shipwreck with a triple bogey on the 11th and a bogey on the 12th. His 70 strokes, the par of the course, took him to the tenth place. At least, it was his first top 10 since two years ago.
However, it was not enough to climb so many places in the FedExCup standings, as the 600 points from that tournament went to Davis Love III, who at 51 became the third oldest player to win on the PGA Tour, a tournament he won for the third time.
Tiger will reappear in October in the tournament that opens the next season (2015/2016) of the American Tour, the Frys.com Open.
The FedExCup playoffs are four of the best-prized tournaments in the world, as each one of them distributes 8,250,000 dollars. The first is The Barclays, from August 27-30, followed by the Deutsche Bank Championship, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship by Coca Cola in September.
